As we make the steep descent down into the Fish River canyon we are faced with trying to find a path. One path has large rocks that will need to be clambered down, while the other is a gentler shale-covered slope. It’s not long after choosing the easier looking path that we realise our mistake. The shale might look like rock, but it’s lose and stepping on it causes it to suddenly shift with dangerous consequences. Is this not how we often approach life? We choose paths that seem easier, seem to be based on good people, solid finances, firm promises, only to find they shift as soon as we rely on them. Rather, choose God, the path of rock for your life. Don’t be deceived by the “easier” path, trust God and he will never let you down, never let you fall. “The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.” (Psalms 37:23-24).
