The heat is relentless as it bakes down on the dry, cracked earth. Life is impossible here. However, despite this, the slightest hint of water changes everything. In the harsh Namibian desert poking through the parched soil we find a flower, delicately juxtaposed atop a thorny plant and the cracked clay below. Sometimes life feels like this. The relentless heat of problems burns down on us. Our very foundations, on which we rely, are cracking. It’s impossible to live. God shares a word photo of his promised future Kingdom. “The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.“ (Isaiah 35:1-2). It’s a picture of earth rejuvenated like never before – life where there was none – joy where there was suffering. But, this is not only a picture of a recreated earth, it is also a picture of God’s promise of hope for the hopeless, life for the dying. It’s God’s offer to you today to experience new life, new hope, and new joy. Let God’s spirit shower down into your life and experience the miracle that causes shouts of joy.
