Some years ago, a group of us went out for a meal at a seafood restaurant overlooking the harbour. The food was delicious. However, when I got home, I started to feel unwell. My stomach was churning, and soon I was racing to the toilet, where I would spend many hours of gastric reflection. Later, on meeting up with the others, I discovered that they too had experienced unpleasant birth pangs. The food tasted delicious, but in it was an unseen bacteria – a poison. We live in a world where poisoned food is everywhere. Not the food we eat, but the “food” we see and listen to. “For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave.” (Proverbs 5:3-5). The Wayward Woman’s Words (WWW) entice us with sweet-tasting words, through social media, news channels, experts, and everyone’s “wisdom”, but the end is not what we expect. It leads to bitter, sharp pain, and ultimately death. Do not be swayed by what people say that tastes sweet. Rather, taste and see that God’s Word is eternally good (Psalm 34:8).
