We recently attended a literary festival, and one of the sessions was hosted in a maritime museum. The author had written a novel about some of the brave sailors who fought during the Second World. After the session, we journeyed back in time, exploring the navy relics in the museum. Looking at the trunks, the navy officers packed for months at sea made me realise how fleeting our time on earth is. The brave, action-packed lives of these people were reduced to a few dusty relics in a museum. How often are we so consumed with our present pursuits we fail to look to the life God is preparing for eternity? David realised this and asked God for help. “Show me, LORD, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure. Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain, they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be. But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.” (Psalm 39:4-7). As the world rushes around like a mere phantom, ultimately ending as a dusty relic, let this be your daily prayer; “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.” Open Bible – http://bit.ly/psa39v4-7
