“Hey Siri, please call my friend Pierre” “Sure,” the clever AI app replies, “calling your friend beer”. “No, not beer! Pierre!” “I’m sorry, Calling your friend fear.” “Never mind, I’ll just call him later.” “Okay. Let me know if you need help with anything else.” The AI apps on our phones while helpful, are irritating if they don’t understand our accent. It’s the same for us too. Sometimes you hear someone speaking in your language but with a foreign accent, and it’s almost impossible to understand what they are saying. We are tuned to best understand and respond to people who we spend time with and who speak like us. The same applies to when God speaks. “Father, glorify your name!” Jesus said. Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.” The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him. Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit, not mine.” (John 12:28-30). Some heard God’s voice others only heard a noise. God speaks into all our lives. Whether we hear a noise or his message depends on if we understand his voice. We will only understand and respond to God if we spend time with him and speak like him. God is speaking. “So, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts” (Hebrews 3:7-8).
