Psa 62v7 – The Rock

Psa 62v7 – The Rock

We recently had the privilege of hiking in the Cederberg area of South Africa. This is a remarkable part of the world with the most incredible, massive rock formations. It struck me how solid these rock sculptures are – unmoving, unchanging, and secure. It made me appreciate why King David often refers to God as a rock. “For who is God, except the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?” (Psalm 18:31). “For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake, lead me and guide me.” (Psalm 31:3). “In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.” (Psalm 62:7). As humans we often build our hopes and dreams on man’s promises and not on God. This is why we live in such a broken world. Man’s promises are like building on sand. As soon as the storms of life hit, your building collapses. This is why David encourages us to put our hope in God. He is like a rock. Unmoving and secure. He knows your future; therefore, He can lead and guide you. Where sand castles collapse in the storms of life, God is a secure refuge through everything. So let us confidently follow the advice of David; “Trust in God at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” (Psalm 62:8).
