Psa 37v8 – Be Still

Psa 37v8 – Be Still

The other day, I had to drive from Franschhoek to Cape Town. I had a meeting at 8 a.m., and I naively thought I could make the drive in 1 hour and 15 min. But there was something I forgot to consider: Traffic, Cape Town Traffic! I watched in despair as my estimated arrival time went further and further away. “Aargh, I hate traffic”, I screamed as frustration and impatience crept in. After sitting in the traffic for a while, I found an alternative route that would take the same amount of time via a round about route, but it had no traffic. “Ah, I would far rather take the long way round than sit and not move”, I thought. Why, as humans, do we hate to sit still? We would rather find another way than have to wait. In Psalm 37:7, we read, “Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him.” God works in the stillness, for it is in the stillness that we can hear his still, small voice. As humans, we always believe we can do it our way, but God calls us to release control and give it to Him, trusting His timing. So the next time you are in traffic, instead of being frustrated as I was, think of God calling you to be still and listen and reflect on his word.
