We recently left our two small dogs behind when our family went on an extended trip. While we knew the date we would return, the dogs had no idea. As the days became weeks, they may have thought we would never return. However, the date was set and slowly but surely, the day drew closer. Until one day, unexpectedly, we arrived. Instantly all waiting was over, and with barks, licks and joy, they welcomed us back. Many years ago, Jesus left, and the angels gave this promise – “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11). As the years have become centuries we have waited not knowing when he will return. Some have lost faith, thinking he will never return, while others continue to look out for him each day. However, “God has fixed a day” (Acts 17:31), and each day it draws closer, until one day he will return “at an hour you do not expect.” (Luke 12:40). And then there will be great joy and great reward “to all who have loved his appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:8). The day has been set. The day will come. Jesus will return. Keep believing.
