We are standing looking at a waterfall plummeting into a deep dark pool. The timing is such that the sun is just dipping behind the mountain behind the waterfall, causing the bright light to shine directly into our eyes. While we have been to this waterfall many times before, today we notice something else – millions of dancing diamonds sprinkling as they float in the air. The sun’s light is causing the fine and otherwise invisible spray to sparkle. It’s stunning seeing this dance of glittering water particles. Only then do we become aware of the soft, almost imperceptible touch of the cool mist on our faces. It makes me wonder how much we don’t see in our lives. How often have we seen the waterfall but not the sparkling diamonds? How often do we see our life and not God’s Spirit at work in it? Just because we don’t see the invisible hand of God does not mean He is not there. We need to open our eyes, let Jesus – the Son, illuminate our lives, and then, in awe, we will see the unseen. We will see the wonder of God around us and his promise to us. “I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.” (Ephesians 1:18).
