What is the most precious thing you have? There could be a variety of answers – my gran’s diamond ring, my family, my dog. But there is one other thing more precious that every person has – and that is time. Without time the things we consider precious have no meaning because we can’t be with them. And so it should be no surprise that God consecrated time before he consecrated anything else. “Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy” (Genesis 2:3). It’s the precious gift of time that we all are given the same amount of every day that God wants from us. Yet many associate church and worship with a place and not a time. This means that if I can’t be at the place, I don’t worship God. Yet when we set a time aside as holy to God, there is no place we cannot worship. Of course, places can be special, allowing people to gather together, but more important is setting aside time, regardless of where we may be. Dedicating some of the most precious gift God has given us to him shows our appreciation and love. Every week set some time aside for worship even if you can’t physically attend. Every day set some time aside for Bible reading and prayer. “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15-16).
