“So Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions there and grew and multiplied exceedingly.” (Genesis 47:27). That sounds great. It’s what we would all want for our lives. Its success. Yet before we wish for this in our lives let’s take a moment to consider the word “possessions”. It’s the Hebrew word, ahaz, which means seize or catch. The first time the word is used gives us a graphic insight into its meaning. “And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns” (Genesis 22:13). The word “caught” is the same word as “possessions”. This is a warning about living in spiritual Egypt where we fill our lives with cars, houses, jewellery, clothing, technology…The more possessions we get, the more we get caught in the thicket. “Take care and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance possessions” (Luke 12:15). Possessions ensnare and enslave us. Jesus releases and frees us. Which success do you want? Open Bible – https://bit.ly/gen47v27, https://bit.ly/gen22v13, https://bit.ly/luk12v15
