Do you love gardening? If you do, you will know that soil preparation is essential for your garden’s flourishing. The soil must be weed free. You must remove all the rocks and sticks and loosen the soil. You then need to provide the soil with good compost. So, too, our hearts need to be prepared for our spiritual life to flourish. We must remove all the weeds that choke our lives – the obstructions that block our path to God. We must humble our hearts and immerse ourselves in prayer and reading God’s word. But now comes the good news. If we get the soil ready, God wants to do all the rest. Not only does God supply the seed, He will make the seed flourish. “Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God.” (2 Corinthians 9:10-11). Just like natural seeds flourish when planted in the right soil, so too God will multiply His seed planted in your heart.
