Joh 3:30 – Becoming less

Joh 3:30 – Becoming less

Only one in a thousand people know the answer to both these questions without cheating. The closest planet to the sun. The number of days in April. The answers are…Mercury and 30. Did you know the answers? If so, do you feel pretty good about yourself? It’s normal to want to feel a bit above the rest. Yet when John baptizes Jesus, we might think this is his moment. He has been preaching about the coming Messiah and now he is here. Surely he should now join Jesus and rise to fame. Yet John says, “He must become greater; I must become less.” (John 3:30). John’s words were so true he would soon be removed completely by being beheaded. Jesus had said about John, “there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist” (Matthew 11:11). And yet as the greatest, he chooses to become the least. Jesus explains the path to greatness- “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant” (Matthew 20:26). It’s the exact opposite of popular culture’s obsession with followers and “likes”. But choosing God’s way will lead to ultimate greatness when he exalts you in his eternity (1 Peter 5:6). The greatest thing you can do is to live life making Jesus greater! Open Bible – https://bit.ly/joh3v30, https://bit.ly/mat11v11, https://bit.ly/mat20v25-28, https://bit.ly/1pe5v6
