Stop and think for a moment, what did you do for someone else yesterday? Who did you help? Who did you do a kind deed for or send an encouraging message to? Or, was everything you did for your own benefit or your own enjoyment and enrichment? We live in a world filled with anger, hatred, greed, depression, jealousy, and pride, and we wonder why. In James 3:16 we read “For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.” The secret to a happy and fulfilling life is given by Jesus when he summarizes all the laws and instructions in the Bible – “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12) When we show kindness, love, peace, compassion, forgiveness, and generosity to others, these are the same gifts that will come flooding back to us.
