I have a niece who has twin baby boys. Her boys are active and full of life, but when they are upset or anxious, only one thing calms them down – to be breastfed by their Mom. In her embrace, they are calm and absolutely content. The peace and satisfaction are immediate. When David compares the love, closeness, and comfort of his relationship with our Heavenly Father, he compares it to a weaned (breastfeeding) child with his mother. “Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Israel. Hope in the LORD from this time forth and forever.“ (Psalm 131:2-3). As a breast-feeding child embraces his mother, such was David’s desire to draw near to God to experience His closeness, love and companionship. Today, if you are feeling anxious or afraid, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” (James 4:8). Hope in the LORD from this time forth and forever.
