I’m not very good at waiting. There’s a certain acceptable time, and then the waiting should be over. But while we might get exasperated with waiting for the ordinary things of life, what about waiting for God? We have asked God to help us – we have prayed for something, and still, we are waiting. What now? We have prayed earnestly for Jesus to return, and still, we are waiting. What now? David says this in Psalm 27:14: “Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.” The way David writes this shows us what happens in the waiting gap. Between the two phrases, “wait for the LORD” is what we must do – “be strong and take heart”. The waiting gap is the space where we develop strength and character. It’s the space where God works in us. God’s timing is perfect. As the verse before says, “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living” (Psalms 27:13). God will answer our prayers in his perfect timing and way. Know that we will see God’s goodness. Remain confident. Be strong. Take heart. Wait for the LORD.
