Psa 51v17 – Broken egg

Does it matter how an egg is broken? Maybe the chef in you will want to explain the best single-handed breaking style. However, while there are many ways to break an egg, only one brings life. And that is when the egg is broken from the inside. It’s only then that new life emerges, and the same applies to us. We can be broken by many things in this world – like injustice, hate, sickness, and loss. These circumstances – consequences of sin in our world, will break us and ultimately kill us. “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). However, there is a breaking that comes from within. As David put it – “My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise” (Psalms 51:17). Instead of being broken by the terrible conditions of our world, let us be broken by God. Let us be humbled in his presence and offer ourselves completely to him. As Jesus said, referring to himself – “Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.” (Matthew 21:44). Don’t be crushed – be broken inside, and be reborn and emerge to experience a new eternal life.
