Rom 6v23 – Look up

Rom 6v23 – Look up

We are cycling, and I look down and see on the side of the track a small white cross. Grief. Pain Someone lost. I look up at the mountain above; I see a large white cross. Hope. Peace. Jesus found. In our world, wherever we look, we will see loss and pain. Whether our office is the mountains or beach or our office is a factory or a dark coal mine – our wages are all the same. “For the wages of sin is death,” (Romans 6:23). The small cross on the side of the road is a vivid reminder. Whomever we are, our destiny is the same. Sin’s wage is death for ruler and servant, for rich and poor. However, it’s what comes after the comma that makes all the difference. What stands atop the mountain when we look up – “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23). God is holding out a grave-ending, death-destroying gift – eternal life through Jesus. We need to decide if we will look down in despair or choose to accept the gift and look up in joy – “look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption is near (Luke 21:28). Look up!
