Beth was so excited to visit the new playground close to her house. As she ran towards the swings, she tripped. It was a painful fall. Her immediate response was to find her mom for comfort. Aren’t we all like Beth? Life is filled with painful falls. A friend lets us down. Someone special is very ill. We have a terrible day at work. Who do you turn to for comfort? Sometimes there is no one. This is the precious role our Heavenly Father wants to play in all our lives. He is the God of mercy and all comfort. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.“ (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). Our everlasting Father’s arms of love are always open to comfort us in all our trials of life. As His children, He also has a special role for us: to comfort those in trouble with the same comfort we have received. In so doing, those we comfort can experience the divine touch of God.
